Maple Candy Old Fashioned

A classic Old Fashioned is a simple cocktail which began as a simple whiskey seasoned with a few dashes of aromatic bitters. Over time the “whiskey drink” evolved into a popular classic cocktail, a balance of spirit, sugar, and bitters. This Maple Old Fashioned uses maple sugar candy in place of a plain sugar cube and gives this cocktail a traditional New England twist.

Ingredients

4 maraschino cherries
1 slice orange
1 slice lemon
2 Ben’s Maple Sugar candies
4 dashes Angostura bitters
5 ounces Bourbon whiskey
1 tablespoon water

Directions

In the base of a cocktail shaker muddle the fruit and maple candy.
Add whiskey, water, bitters and a few cubes of ice. Shake vigorously and then strain, divided, into 2 ice filled glasses.
Garnish with an orange twist and cherry.

Recipe Note

If you don’t have a cocktail shaker, simply divide the ingredients and prepare in individual glasses. Muddle the fruit and candy directly in the glass and give a good stir before serving.
