Atole Avena is a traditional Mexican hot oatmeal drink and here we are replacing sugar with maple syrup. This is delicious, warming, and so comforting.

Ingredients
- 1 cup old fashioned oats
- 4 cups milk
- ½ cup Ben’s Maple Sugar
- 2 cups water
- 2 cinnamon sticks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extractÂ
- pinch sea salt (optional)Â
- ground cinnamon for garnish
Directions
- Combine the oats and half of the milk in a blender. Blend until smooth (about 30 seconds).
- In a large pot over medium heat add the water and cinnamon sticks. Cover and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the blended milk and oats, remaining 2 cups of milk, vanilla, Ben’s Maple syrup, and salt to the pot.
- Cook over low heat for 5 minutes while stirring.
- Remove from the heat and divide into mugs (remove cinnamon sticks).
- Stir in a bit of milk if a thinner consistency is desired, garnish with a sprinkle of cinnamon and enjoy!
