Maple Shortbread Cookies

A simple Shortbread Cookie sweetened with Maple Sugar and bursting with Maple Flavor. Cut out into festive shapes and enjoy as a holiday treat, perfect for gifting too.

10 minutes + 30 minutes to chill dough
Baking Time: 15-18 minutes at 325 degrees
Yields: 2 dozen cookies

•1 Cup Unsalted Butter
•1/2 Cup Maple Sugar
•2 Cups All Purpose Flour
•1/4 tsp Cinnamon
1/8 tsp Salt
Optional: Sanding Sugar or Sprinkles, also Maple Syrup frosting *see recipe below.

Cut Butter into small pieces. With a mixer combine butter and maple sugar. Add Flour, Cinnamon, and Salt, mix until dough comes together. Wrap dough in plastic wrap and chill for about 30 minutes. Let dough sit for a few minutes to soften, cut in half. On a well floured surface roll out dough to about a 1/4 inch thick. Use cookie cutters or cut into traditional shortbread rectangles. Add sanding sugar or sprinkles before baking to make your cookies shine. Bake for 15-18 minutes, depending on the size of your cutouts.

These buttery cookies bring out all the cozy flavors of the holidays. They are warm and inviting, the perfect balance of maple and cinnamon. Add some sanding sugar before baking for an added crunch and a little sparkle. They are also delicious dipped in melted White Chocolate. A nice compliment to a cup of tea or dunked in warm coffee. Wrap in cellophane, adorned with a ribbon for a sweet holiday gift. If you want a little extra Maple flavor I’ve included an optional Maple Syrup Frosting. Enjoy!!

Maple Syrup Frosting

•3/4 Cup Pure Maple Syrup
•1/4 Cup Butter
•2 Tbsp. Milk
•2 1/2 Cups sifted Powdered Sugar

Bring Maple Syrup to a boil in saucepan, for about 5 minutes, until its reduced to about 1/2 Cup. Remove from heat. Add Butter, Milk, and Powdered Sugar. If you want the frosting thicker you can add additional sugar. Frost Cookies.
